On the motor bike |
January 30, 2013 |
Being Jan's youngest sister I have spent a lot of time with them, just short of living with them during my teens.
I remember one time I was showing some interest in Larry's dirt bike. He happily showed me how it worked and asked if I wanted to try riding it. I hesitantly said yes, only when he promised to stay close so I wouldn't fall. It was a big bike and I couldn't reach the ground. Things started out well. He stayed by my side untill he got winded. I was okay by then, I felt confident enough that I wouldn't fall over. He stayed outside watching me go around in circles in their back yard. Then he was called in for a phone call. I kept going around in circles. At first it was fun, after a while though I had had enough. I wasn't sure what to do. If I stopped I would fall over with this big thing probably on top of me. So I called him as I passed the house. NO response. I tried again and again, each time I passed the house. He did finaly did come out of the house. In my mind a lot of time had passed. I still think he forgot about me out there.
Looking back on that and the many other times he spent time with me as a pesky younger sister-in-law I realise how influential he was in my life. He was always very patient with me, taking an interst in my life and loving to tease me. I will miss his wit and wisdom. He brought such joy and laughter to our family.

Cars, Trucks, Motorhomes, Bikes & More.... |
January 29, 2013 |
It's been great living next door to Jan & Larry for the past 2 1/2 years. I've loved watching the various array of motor vehicles come and go from their yard. From the biggest motorhome ever, to the motorbikes, to towing this and towing that, to the loading and unloading. It was very entertaining! I loved heading over to the side garden to ask where the next adventure was and with big smiles and hearts full of life and excitement they would tell me their plans.
The joy and love that this couple has for each other and Jesus is so contagious and envigorating. I will miss Larry very much and I hope that now Jan and I will have a chance to get to know each other even more.:) Life on this side of heaven is really so fleeting, like dew on the grass... one moment a fabulous array of light and the next gone. I want to cherish theses moments that I get with Jan before we to, are dancing with Jesus... and Larry of course!

Car Problems |
January 27, 2013 |
In August when Linda and myself stayed in the Belanger suite in White Rock, Larry in typical fashion observed and complimented me on the Chev Impala I was driving. He liked the "look" of the car, commented on the good reputation of the 3.8 engine and then made the mistake of asking how the car was running. I told him the truth - we had barely made it over the Coquihalla from Kelowna - there were mechanical issues. His eager response? "We'll have to get the car in the garage before you go back and take a look at it. I didn't bring it up again not wanting to bother him with our problem. But Larry, as Larry would...remembered, and the day before we left, directed me to pull the car into his garage where we took a look at the problem. I remember him crawling under the vehicle once we got it up on the jack - his determination to figure out the problem was very evident. If this was an isolated act, I probably wouldn't share it, the fact is...Larry wasn't afraid to get dirty and expend energy to help someone out - he made our problem his challenge. We couldn't solve the problem right then and there but he and Jan sent us on our way with a tangible blessing that would contribute to solving our car issues.
We will fondly remember Larry for his cheerful outgoing nature. Quietly generous and always respectful and romantically loving toward Jan. We will miss those walks through the park down to the waterfront...at least for now. We will certainly look forward to more walks with Larry on the other side of this life, forever with the Lord Jesus that Larry loved.
